Ammonium Nitrate Fertilizer

Ammonium nitrate is a white crystalline solid. It is highly soluble in water and hygroscopic as a solid. It is predominantly used in agriculture as a high-nitrogen fertilizer (NPK 34-0-0) and as a component of explosives (mining, quarrying metal mining and civil constructrion) and pyrotechnics. Pure ammonium nitrate does not burn, but as a strong oxidizer, it supports and accelerates the combustion of organic (and some inorganic) material. It should not be stored near combustible substances.

Ammonium Nitrate Fertilizer Properties

Strong growth of above-ground parts and proper plant development require an adequate supply of nitrogen. Ammonium nitrate provides this element in an easily available form, so it quickly supports the growth of leaves, shoots and young plants. The magnesium contained in the fertiliser is involved in photosynthesis, which helps maintain good crop condition and supports obtaining high-quality yields.

Composition

The fertiliser contains 27% nitrogen (N) and 4% magnesium oxide (MgO).

Molar Weight  : 80.044 g/mol
Melting Point : 169.9 °C (337.8 °F)
Boiling Point : decomposes at around 210 °C
Forms : White, Crystalline

Ammonium Nitrate Fertilizer Function

Ammonium nitrate is intended for fertilising all plant crops and all types of soil. It can be used both before sowing and as a top dressing during the growing season. The product is used, among others, in the cultivation of vegetables, fruit trees and on lawns, where it helps maintain vigorous growth and proper plant nutrition.

Dosage

For lawns, and in the cultivation of cucumber and parsley, it is recommended to use 3 to 4 kg of fertiliser per 100 m². Tomatoes and cabbage are fertilised with a dose of 3 kg per 100 m², carrots with 2.5 to 4.5 kg per 100 m², while fruit trees with 1 to 3 kg per 100 m². The 20 kg pack allows fertilising approximately 444 to 800 m² of area, depending on the applied dose.

How Ammonium Nitrate Fertilizer Powers Crop Growth
  • ✔ Dual Nitrogen Availability: The nitrate portion is immediately available for plants—initiating quick uptake and rapid leaf development during early stages.
  • ✔ Ammonium Portion: Gradually becomes available as soil microbes convert it—sustained nutrition through later vegetative and reproductive growth.
  • ✔ Boosts Crop Yields: Delivers the high nitrogen content essential for maximum yields, plant health, and starch/sugar synthesis.
  • ✔ Precision and Efficiency: Consistent granular form allows accurate blending and targeted application—minimizing waste and optimizing plans.
  • ✔ Minimal Losses: In cooler climates or areas with heavy rainfall, rapid plant uptake helps overcome potential nitrogen losses from leaching or volatilization.

Directions for use

Spread the granules evenly over the soil surface before sowing or planting, or used as a top dressing during plant growth. After fertilising, it is worth watering the growing medium, which speeds up the dissolution of the granules and makes it easier for the roots to absorb nutrients.
